Video: Chicago Police Release Footage of Jussie Smollett with Noose Around Neck

Chicago releases video of police first encountering Jussie Smollett with rope around his neck

Included in the almost 70 hours of video is footage of Smollett wearing the noose he alleged his so-called attackers looped around his neck during the racist and anti-gay assault against him.

The bodycam captured the officers entering the home and speaking to Frank Gatson, who introduces himself as the actor's "creative director", while Smollett can be seen wearing a thin white rope around his neck. He alerted officers he wanted to take off the noose but not until it was seen.

"He doesn't want this to be a big deal, you understand what I'm saying", Smollett's manager tells the officers.

The video cuts short because Smollett asked police to turn off their bodycams in order to preserve his privacy.

"There's bleach on me, they poured bleach on me", Smollett added.

Bodies of seven missing climbers 'recovered on Himalayas'
Maninder Kohli of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation told AFP that it would be " dangerous " to bring the bodies back by land. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITPB) said on Twitter that its mountaineers had now recovered the bodies from under the snow.

Chicago police had accused the actor of orchestrating the attack with the help of two brothers whom he knew. He also claims they tied a noose around his neck.

Police allege the star staged the attack in an effort to generate publicity because he was dissatisfied with his Empire salary.

Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Smollett "took advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career".

The State's Attorney's office ran by Kim Foxx, later dropped the charges against the actor.

He tells the police: "I work with him".

Smollett claimed that he was jumped by the two men as he left a branch of Subway in the early hours of January 29, 2019.

He was indicted on 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct for filing a false report in March.

Chicago Police still thought Smollett was guilty, even though the charges were all dropped.

"The unprecedented irregularities in this case warrants the appointment of independent counsel to restore the public's confidence in the integrity of our criminal justice system", Cook County Circuit Judge Michael Toomin said.

The city of Chicago is also pursuing Smollett in civil court to recoup the $130,000 overtime cost stemming from the investigation.

Lueck's route "contained no irregularities" and ended at the scheduled destination, said Lauren Alexander, a Lyft spokeswoman. Police have issued a missing persons poster for MacKenzie Lueck but say they have no evidence she is in danger.

Smollett's lawyers - Mark Geragos and Tina Glandian - described the lawsuit as "comical" and "ridiculous".
