Chinese technology giant Huawei is in the process of launching its "Hongmeng" operating system (OS) to replace Google's Android OS, the firm's vice president of public affairs and communications Andrew Williamson, has said.
President Donald Trump's administration last month put Huawei on a blacklist that barred it from doing business with U.S. tech companies such as Alphabet Inc, whose Android OS is used in Huawei's phones.
As writes the edition, the producers have already begun to test the new OS from Huawei as a potential replacement for Android. So, in the search for an Android alternative (which Huawei needs badly), the Chinese company seems to be opting for an existing OS instead of a new one.
Data from the UN World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) revealed that Huawei has already filed for a trademark for the OS in countries such as South Korea, New Zealand, Canada, and Cambodia.

Broadcom Inc has warned of a broad slowdown in chip demand, blaming the US-China trade conflict and export restrictions on Huawei, and cut its revenue forecast for the year by 8 per cent. Huawei accounted for about or 4 per cent of the company's overall sales last year. Huawei is trying its best to sort out the problems it has been going through.
Huawei initially scrambled to build its own mobile operating system after the United States included it in its trade blacklist.

On the other hand, the South China Morning Post put an article questioning whether Huawei's front-foot battle with the USA is survivable without concessions from talks between leaders Trump and Xi.
"Many of the most popular apps in China aren't tied to Google, and many of Google's apps aren't even available in China". Peru has some 5.5 million Huawei phone users.
"This gives a Huawei OS a decent shot at achieving an early adoption rate high enough to enable further development, which over time could develop to the point of challenging Google's Android OS internationally".
