Man Also Died In The Dominican Republic After Drinking From Minibar

U.S. authorities are scrambling to get to the bottom of a rash of deaths of U.S. tourists in the Dominican Republic, with the number of reported fatalities over the past year now rising to six. Family members said that Robert Bell Wallace, a 67-year-old California man, became sick and eventually died in April after getting a drink from his hotel room's minibar. Lawrence-Daley says she suffered a broken nose and facial fractures after a man dressed like a hotel employee attacked her, dragged her into a maintenance room and assaulted her for several hours. Arnold said her uncle was in good health and had just gone skiing in Lake Tahoe a month prior.

Engaged couple Edward Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Day, 49, from Maryland, were found dead in their room at the Bahia Principe La Romana on May 30.

People Magazine reported that a Pennsylvania woman died May 25 shortly after drinking from the minibar at Bahia Principe La Romana hotel.

At the same Hard Rock resort previous year, another American man died under similar circumstances, the man's wife said. "I was miserable", she told the NewYork Daily News.
