Winslow could face decades behind bars if he's convicted on the remaining felony charges. Jurors also found Winslow guilty of indecent exposure and lewd conduct involving two other women.

SAN DIEGO -Jurors in San Diego found ex-NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II guilty Monday on three counts including rape, lewd conduct, and indecent exposure. A short time later, the jury foreman sent a note to the judge saying that the panel remained deadlocked on all remaining charges.

The former National Football League (NFL) star, who played for Cleveland, Tampa Bay, New England and the New York Jets, faces up to life in prison if convicted of all counts.

Winslow was initially arrested in 2018 after authorities said they found ties to him and two alleged break-ins at the home of a 71-year-old woman on June 1 and an 86-year-old woman on June 7 in the Pacific beach town of Encinitas, north of San Diego.

A 77-year-old woman who went to the same gym as Winslow in the beach community of Carlsbad said he committed lewd acts in front of her, including touching himself in the facility's hot tub, while Winslow was free on US$2 million bail in February.

After Shockey left for the NFL, Winslow became the Hurricanes' starting tight end in 2002 and set a school record for the position with 57 receptions for 726 yards and eight touchdowns.

The charges spanned 16 years, beginning in 2003 with allegations that Winslow, 19 at the time and destined for the University of Miami, raped an unconscious 17-year-old, according to court documents. Bail was revoked following his arrest in that case.

"He victimised five women, five separate women who knew nothing of each other".
