Teachers Upset After YouTube Deletes Nazi History Videos Amid Hate Speech Purge

YouTube says anti-gay abuse against Vox journalist Carlos Maza ‘doesn’t violate’ policies

"We've been taking a close look at our approach towards hateful content in consultation with dozens of experts in subjects like violent extremism, supremacism, civil rights, and free speech", it said.

CrowderThe right-wing commentator has regularly used homophobic slurs when referring to Maza, a journalist who produces the Strikethrough video series for left-leaning news site, Vox. This would include, for example, videos that promote or glorify Nazi ideology.

Google-owned video service YouTube is updating its hate speech policy, as it faces backlash over inaction in addressing hateful and borderline harmful content on its platform.

Thousands of channels that do not quite break the rules will also be restricted by Youtube, by stopping recommending their video, which is known to reduce their views by 80%.

Channels that "repeatedly brush up against" its hate-speech policies will be suspended from the company's partner programme.

Police raids sought to intimidate media: ABC Chair
It's understood the names of ABC's director Gaven Morris and journalists Dan Oakes and Sam Clark are against the warrant. A similar raid was carried out earlier this week at the home of a journalist in Australia's capital, Canberra.

The policy changes will go into effect today, with enforcement expected to "ramp up" over the next few days.

YouTube would like to be commended for this courageous stance, but it's tough to take the site's word on any of this.

Strangely, the company now explicitly bans videos that encourage discrimination or segregation based on sexuality, but made no reference to that high-profile case in its blog post, and did not say that it would change its position.

Videos or content promoting discrimination, racism as well as those denying well-documented violent events such as Holocaust or the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting will be eliminated by YouTube. "As we do this, we'll also start raising up more authoritative content in recommendations, building on the changes we made to news a year ago", YouTube noted.

Happily, as Variety reports, YouTube chose to do something about Crowder's channel after all, demonetizing his channel and removing it from the YouTube Partner Program. After receiving a ton of blowback for its policies regarding hate speech, YouTube has said it will be reviewing its policies. Countless others claimed that Maza is against "free speech" unless it suits his "liberal bias". "A critical question remains: how will the company enforce this new policy-especially against popular and profitable YouTubers who espouse anti-Muslim bigotry?" said Madihha Ahussain, Muslim Advocates' special counsel for anti-Muslim bigotry.

Drake trolls Bay Area after Raptors' Game 4 win
The only team to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the Finals was the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers, who beat the Warriors in 2016. KBLX program director Elroy Smith makes no apologies on his decision, telling Variety: "The Golden State Warriors will 3-PEAT".

YouTube also wants to remind advertiser friendly and prevent hateful channels from ruining YouTube's ad revenue.

Video game developer Mark Kern reminds readers that like Twitter banning people for tweeting "learn to code" at journalists, the Masters of the Universe seem sensitive about criticism of journalists.

In videos flagged to YouTube, Crowder has not instructed his viewers to harass Maza on YouTube or any other platform and the main point of these videos was not to harass or threaten, but rather to respond to the opinion.

YouTube did not disclose the names of any groups or channels that may be banned.
