Author Vicky Ward, who just published a telling book on Kushner's rise to political prominence from the real estate world, complimented Axios' Jonathan Swan's skills as an interviewer, calling the one-on-one a "masterclass in journalism".
"The hope is that over time, they can become capable of governing", he told Swan.
In the "Axios on HBO" interview, Kushner said that the Palestinian territories must become "investable", and in order for that to happen, there has to be "a fair judicial system", as well as freedom of the press, freedom of expression, and tolerance for all religions.
"If you say "two-state", it means one thing to the Israelis, it means one thing to the Palestinians", he told the Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

"I'm not here to be trusted", Kushner responded when asked by Axios about Palestinian attitudes surrounding the ongoing rift with Washington, and justified the USA punitive actions, saying they were in response to decisions taken by the Palestinian leadership.
Last month, Kushner indicated that the U.S. would be pulling back from its long-standing support of the two-state solution.
The administration plan has repeatedly been postponed and the collapse of Israeli coalition negotiations last week, and move to hold fresh elections in September, is widely expected to set back the launch of the plan even further.

US officials have been vague about the timing for releasing proposals for resolving the thorny political issues at the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. His position is the one that as a staffer in the White House, we'll work to push.
The Palestinian leadership has refused to deal with the Trump administration since late 2017 when the president made a decision to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv and recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is anxious the Trump administration's soon-to-be-released Middle East peace plan will be considered "unworkable", and might not gain traction, US media reported on Sunday.
Pompeo did express hope, however, that the deal was not simply dismissed out of hand, the Post reported.
Israel faces new vote as Netanyahu fails to form government
Netanyahu has a home in the tony coastal town of Caesarea; Liberman lives in the West Bank settlement of Nokdim. The Blue and White didn't stand a chance to form the government this time because it lacked allies.
The president said his administration is doing the best they can to establish peace terms, however, they must wait to see what happens. Most people would say it can't be done. I text my assistant and say can give me a call and get me the hell out of here. I think it probably can.
