Hawaiian yoga teacher missing for over two weeks rescued from Maui forest

Eller, a 35-year old yoga teacher, was found alive Friday after she went missing for more than two weeks.

The rescuers spotted Eller from the helicopter around 5pm local time. "They found her in a deep ravine, basically unable to get out, as I understand it", John Eller, Amanda's father said in an interview with Maui 24/7, HawaiiNewsNow reported.

Her family says she was found by their own search team captains who were in a helicopter searching the general area when she spotted them and waved them down.

Eller suffered a leg fracture, abrasions on her ankles and a severe sunburn, but Julia Eller told the Maui News that her daughter's spirits were good.

Video posted to the Facebook page shows searchers and dogs at the site where her auto was found.

"I was crying tears of joy", Eller's mother, Julia, said.

"I feel like she's out here somewhere, and so I'm just asking for that love and support; and just keep her-keep us-in your prayers", he said on May 19.

Her family asked for experienced rapellers and hunters to help look for the missing hiker in the densely-covered forest.

An online announcement about her rescue on the "Find Amanda" Facebook page has now been shared and liked thousands of times.

"She was very alert, she knew her father's phone number, she knew who she was, where she was, knew exactly how long she had been out there - very surprised to see us", Berquist told ABC News.

As word of her discovery spread across Maui, searchers gleefully scribbled messages that read "FOUND ALIVE!" on the posters that had been publicizing her disappearance.

Cantellops told the the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that she was in the bed of a creek with waterfalls on either side.

"Sure enough, God willing, she was right there", Javier Canetellops, a search coordinator who was in the helicopter, told reporters.

"There were times of total fear and loss and wanting to give up", Amanda Eller, who was visibly emotional, in a video posted Saturday to the Facebook group dedicated to finding her.

Hiking crews had been searching for the woman after she went missing from a popular hiking trail in Maui on May 9th.

"I think she took a good fall".

Haynes said the helicopter that Cantellops discovered Eller from was paid for with some of the $75,000 from a GoFundMe campaign. "It was her mental strength and fortitude, her belief in herself that kept her at it". "I was bawling like a baby".

"She was in deep deep H'aiku", Berquist said. "You really found her?' - and then just explosions on both ends", Berquist said.
