Berkshire Hathaway has been buying Amazon shares: CNBC

Amazon stock climbs as Warren Buffett admits he was an "idiot" for not investing earlier

On Friday, shares of Amazon jumped more than 3%.

An ill-fated 2011 investment in IBM was Berkshire's first bet on tech and was followed five years later, and on a much larger scale, with the purchase of shares in iPhone maker Apple.

Buffett, whose 54-year investment career has made him one of the richest men in the world, has previously hailed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and last year Berkshire announced a joint healthcare venture with Amazon and JPMorgan Chase.

Barr skips House hearing; Pelosi accuses him of lying
The report also detailed a series of actions Trump took to try to impede the investigation. Angus King, who opposed Barr's nomination to be attorney general.

The Berkshire Hathaway chairman and chief executive officer said "one of the fellows in the office that manage money" made the purchases, a reference to investment managers Todd Combs and Ted Weschler.

He holds a stake in Apple and had a sizeable investment in IBM at one point, but has generally refrained from investing in numerous biggest technology companies that have become powerhouses in the 21st Century, including Google, Facebook and - until now - Amazon. Although Buffett has always been a fan of Amazon, he has never bought shares of Amazon. That was more than the $1.3 billion that Berkshire, which historically has preferred using its cash on equities or acquisitions, spent all of a year ago after relaxing its policy on buybacks.

Succession: Buffett is 88 years old and Munger is 95.

Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett's holding company, takes its name from a textile business he acquired in 1965 and which went bust in the 1980s. The company's annual retreat should answer these questions for investors.

The company this week signed a deal to pump US$10b into Occidental Petroleum to fund the oil and gas company's US$55b takeover of rival Anadarko.

Berkshire also said it repurchased $1.7 billion (1.29 billion pounds) of its stock in the quarter, reflecting Buffett's troubles to find better uses for the Omaha, Nebraska-based conglomerate's cash hoard, which now totals $114.2 billion.

Enigmatic Beluga whale lets people pet it in Artic Norway
This is not the first time Russian Federation has dabbled in training sea creatures for the military, according to The Guardian . A group of scientists and fishermen found the whale swimming near their boat off Ingoya, an Arctic island, asking for food.

Buffett's assistants did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
