U.S. President Donald Trump met Tuesday with the top executive of Twitter, just hours after complaining the social media platform treats him unfairly. "Big complaints from many people", the president tweeted to his almost 60 million followers.

President Trump meets with Jack Dorsey at the White House. It was then explained that follower fluctuation often results from spambot removal procedures.

Trump, who uses the platform for policy and political commentary, appeared to take credit for Twitter's turnaround, even as he renewed his claims of bias.

That's Trump's social media director and former golf caddie Dan Scavino glowering to Dorsey's right.

"Trump has raised these same accusations against Twitter in the past, including in October when he said that they had "stifled growth" and in July 2016 when he accused the company of "'SHADOW BANNING' prominent Republicans".

Twitter's monthly active users dropped by 6 million from this time past year to 330 million, but were up by 9 million compared with the previous quarter. Very discriminatory, hard for people to sign on.

Trump's early-morning tweet quoted a guest on Maria Bartiromo's Fox Business Network cable show as saying the "best thing ever to happen to Twitter is Donald Trump", before launching his attack.

Meanwhile, Dorsey thanked the president for hosting the gathering, tweeting: "Thank you for the time".

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump suggested Twitter was biased against him, without providing evidence. But the president and Republicans in Congress have repeatedly criticized the company and its social media competitors for what they have called bias against conservatives, something Twitter denies.

"They discussed Twitter's commitment to protecting the health of the public conversation ahead of the 2020 USA elections and efforts underway to respond to the opioid crisis", the spokesperson said.

On the not-so-bright side, Twitter reported 330 million monthly active users for the quarter, which represented a decline of about 6 million MAUs, year-over-year.
