The zoo reopened about 45 minutes after the attack.

A zookeeper is recovering in the hospital after she was attacked Saturday morning by a tiger at the Topeka, Kansas zoo.

The zookeeper suffered "lacerations and punctures to the back of the head, neck, back and one arm", Wiley told reporters.

The zoo's director, Brendan Wiley, said the zoo's primary keeper is in stable condition.

North Korea says it test-fired new tactical guided weapon
It is not the first time North Korea has singled out Pompeo for special criticism. Kwon said another meeting would not be successful with Pompeo there.

The name of the keeper, the mother of a 3-year-old son, is being withheld until all family members can be informed of her condition, he said.

The Zoo has reached out to Associated of Zoos and Aquariums about the incident and, Wiley said, they plan to review their policies and procedures in response to the attack. Nor did he explain why she was in the enclosure with the tiger.

"Some of our staff witnessed some things that you hope you go through a career without witnessing", Wiley said. "We're going to let our internal investigation play out".

After about 10 minutes other staff members were able to lure the tiger into an indoor pen using its food ration, Mr Wiley said. The remaining tigers, except Sanjiv, have since been allowed out of their holding cell.

Zoo officials are not considering euthanizing Sanjiv.

The site reports that Shawnee County Dispatch were called just after 9.30am local time following reports of a tiger attack.

A rare Sumatran tiger has attacked a worker at a USA zoo, wounding the back of her head and neck before other staff were able to coax it away with food, officials said.

"While this incident is very unfortunate", Wiley said, "he did what a wild animal, what a wild tiger does".

Flight attendant in coma after contracting measles
The report says that the woman only had one measles vaccine as a child, when two are recommended. The largest and most recent outbreak consisted of seven cases in Shelby County in 2016.

Topeka Zoo spokeswoman Molly Hadfield said the tigers have been put in 'holding'. The pens house two adult tigers and two cubs.
