Damaging winds and tornadoes could strike the Southeast and mid-Atlantic states, especially within the "enhanced risk" area.

Expect the storms to be in Glynn, Camden, Nassau, western Duval, Bradford, northwestern Clay and Alachua counties between 1-2 p.m.

" The first round of storms could hit east of Dallas-Fort Worth after 3 p.m".

The storms are expected in Macon by 5 a.m. and will linger for most of the morning.

The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 miles per hour (97 kph) in Natchez, Mississippi, on Thursday afternoon as the storm system moved across the Mississippi River from Louisiana. There are a number of factors at play in the atmosphere to contribute to a better than average chance for severe weather for us.

Texas residents braced for severe thunderstorms - with the threat of "baseball-sized" hail - by covering their vehicles with pretty much anything they could find.

"An isolated tornado is not out of the question", said a weather briefing issued Wednesday by the Miami-South Florida forecast office of the National Weather Service. Their scale is five color-coded possibilities, enhanced is in the middle of how confident they are that there will be severe thunderstorms/tornadoes.

Eric Platt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, says the storm will develop out over the Hill Country and come in from the west. Large hail and damaging winds are the main threats. The low will be 59 on Saturday morning, according to the weather service.

Even though thunderstorms in our region may not erupt to great heights (and lightning may be scant), downdrafts in those storms could periodically stir some of that wind momentum to the ground. This has the effect of bringing in the rain/storms sooner than just tracking the line of storms.
