Boeing Confirms Additional Problems With Boeing 737 Max Flight Controls

First preliminary report of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302 released

Family of American woman sues Boeing, Ethiopian Airlines over 737 Max crash

The Ethiopian probe appeared to confirm suspicions about the so-called Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System, with data echoing that from the crash of the Indonesian Lion Air 737 MAX 8 flight in October a year ago which killed 189 people.

Boeing was "blinded by its greed" and rushed the 737 Max 8 to market with the "knowledge and tacit approval" of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, while hiding defects in its automated flight-control system, Stumo's parents alleged in their lawsuit, filed in federal court in Chicago.

On March 10, a Boeing 737 Max 8 plane operated by Ethiopian Airlines crashed moments after taking off from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, killing all 157 people on board.

Muilenburg is confident that the fix will prevent crashes of 737 MAX aircraft as a result of the faulty MCAS function. "It's our responsibility to eliminate this risk", he said.

The company said that to make sure unintended activation of the system doesn't happen again, Boeing is developing software and "associated comprehensive pilot training" for the Max. The crash, which took place on March 10, marked the second fatal crash of a almost brand-new Boeing 737 Max airliner since October and precipitated the grounding of the global 737 Max fleet.

Following a procedure that Boeing reiterated after the Lion Air crash, the Ethiopian pilots flipped two switches and disconnected the anti-stall system, then tried to regain control.

A statement by Boeing Commercial Airplanes' President and CEO, Kevin McAllister, on Thursday, said that understanding the circumstances that contributed to the accident was critical to ensuring safe flight.

It was the first lawsuit filed on behalf of a USA victim of the Ethiopian disaster and the first to target the airline and parts manufacturer Rosemount, in addition to Boeing.

Boeing has insisted safety is at the core of its activities in response to the preliminary report into the crash of Ethiopian Airlines flight 302.

According to the preliminary report, data from the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder indicates that one of the plane's angle-of-attack sensors began fluctuating shortly after take off and sent "erroneous" information.

Unfortunately, the pilots also reported issues with portions of the manual flight controls after MCAS was turned off.

Preliminary reports from investigators in Indonesia and Ethiopia indicated that the MCAS had activated in the two flights' final minutes, with pilots struggling to keep the plane level as it pitched inexorably downward.

The move drew criticism because presidents usually release their tax returns either during the election or after taking office. But I've been under audit for many years because the numbers are big, and I guess when you have a name you're audited.

The 737 Max, which is Boeing's new flagship plane, has been grounded by aviation authorities around the world.

Boeing issued a bulletin reminding operators of emergency guidelines to override the anti-stall system after the Lion Air crash.

They asked to turn back, but it was too late.

"Although there was three heavy automatic and un-commanded nose dives from the flight control system, in today's category and today's terminology it looks like the MCAS was activated", Gebremariam said.

"This is a challenging time for our industry, and we are working with our customer Boeing to support them as they focus on returning the MAX to service".
