Hundreds of youngsters are planning to skip school to join a rally in Washington on Friday as part of what organizers are calling an global Youth Climate Strike to seek action on climate change. The protest movement has now spread across the world, with walkouts being held in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and today the United States of America, as well as more than 100 other countries across the globe.

"Anybody who can listen to our message and change what's happening right now in the government, we welcome their ear, we welcome their opinion", Hutten says.

She said the movement began with just one girl, Greta Thunburg, who started Friday climate strikes in Sweden, and has spread to over 100 countries.

Young Derry students at a number of Derry schools will tomorrow leave their classrooms in a staged "strike" to attend a protest on climate change.

In New Zealand, strike organizers said they were pleased after a meeting with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Climate Change Minister James Shaw, saying they believed their government would take positive steps.

"Here in France, we have already been striking every Friday for four weeks".

High school students all over the world, including in Utah, will walk out Friday in a protest to call attention to the issue of climate change.

The protest is part of a global Youth Climate Strike, and as CNN reports, thousands of schoolchildren have been clogging streets across the US, Europe, and South Asia today.

Thunberg, who has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, said at a rally in Stockholm that the world faces an "existential crisis, the biggest crisis humanity ever has faced and still it has been ignored for decades".

Students plan to ask city officials to support the federal Green New Deal proposal as well as local policies that are in line with the concept.

"This port is being built under the guise of economic opportunities when it only really helps the rich get richer, we will not fall for it", said Mishka Banuri, co-founder of Utah Youth Environmental Solutions, .
