Trump Blames Cohen Hearing for Failure of North Korea Summit

Trump blames Cohen testimony for collapse of summit with Kim Jong-un

John Bolton claims North Korea summit was not a failure

Trump and Kim's second summit last week collapsed over what the Americans saw as excessive North Korean demands for sanctions relief in exchange for limited disarmament steps.

Trump and Kim met in Vietnam last week amid high expectations.

Under U.S. laws, Trump would need to go through an involved process to soften U.S. unilateral sanctions against the North, which would put South Korean companies doing business in the North under the threat of U.S. boycotts.

Rogers didn't think the North Korea summit went well for the US and that Trump made a mistake in his negotiation tactics because he has such a hard stance.

"If Kim conceded anything [to Trump], then Trump's successor might say that everything that this clown [Trump] has signed was not in our national interests and then Kim would end up in Gaddafi's position", he explained. Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.) announced Monday that he would introduce a resolution to Congress that will hold North Korea and Kim Jon Un responsible for Warmbier's death.

But there was evidently a great deal more to the relationship between Trump and Pecker/AMI than the McDougal case, Cohen said .

The Democratic head of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff called the entire summit a "spectacular failure" and said Trump made things worse with his comments about Otto Warmbier.

"I think the obligation of the president of the United States is to defend and advance American national security interests".

"Trump miraculously managed to worsen relations on all fronts: with the European Union, China, Russia", he said. The last was on June 14 previous year, a day after the first Kim-Trump summit in Singapore.

"There are those who said we lacked civility when I got up and talked about the President's Cabinet, and I said if you see them anywhere, if you see them at a restaurant, if you see them in a department store, even at a gasoline station, just tell them you're not welcome here or anywhere", Waters told the audience.

Bolton was touring the Sunday political shows the morning after the US and South Korea announced an end to key annual large-scale military exercises.

Trump believes holding the hearings at the same time as the Hanoi summit weakened him in negotiations with Kim Jong Un. Otto Warmbier, center, is escorted at the Supreme Court in Pyongyang, North Korea, March 16, 2016.

"We hope the two countries would continue dialogue and the two leaders would meet again soon to reach an agreement that has been delayed this time", Moon said at the meeting on Monday.

Trump and Secretary of State Michael Pompeo said they couldn't accept the proposal from North Korea to shut down the Yongbyon complex in return for complete sanctions relief because the regime still had hidden production facilities and missiles elsewhere that could threaten the US.

An example of that non-traditional diplomacy was formally unveiled Sunday when South Korea and the USA announced they would not conduct massive springtime military drills and were replacing them with smaller exercises.

"This is, I think, the result of a president who is not prepared for these kind of negotiations, a staff that is not well-prepared and that is essentially flying by the seat of its trousers, and it has real-world consequences", Schiff said.
