The "snow" moon (also called the "hunger" or "storm" moon) gets its name from Native American culture.

What is Super Snow Moon?

February's full moon is known as the "snow moon" as a result of the heavy snowfall that often occurs at that time of year, according to the Old Farmer's Almanac.

Read some Fun Super Moon Facts from NASA below: A supermoon occurs when the moon's orbit is closest (perigee) to Earth at the same time it is full.

India also called back its High Commissioner to Islamabad Ajay Basaria, who flew to New Delhi for "consultation". Both India and Pakistan claim all of Muslim-majority Kashmir but control only parts of it.

The super snow moon officially crests Tuesday at 10:53 a.m. ET after the sun is already up, but if you catch it overnight Monday or Tuesday it will essentially look the same to the naked eye. It is expected to be the brightest moon of its kind until 2026.

The best time to see it will be at moonrise, between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Online astronomy site EarthSky notes that astronomers usually refer to supermoons as perigean full moons - a term that simply refers to the moon being "near earth".

Though the moon is officially fullest on Tuesday morning, it'll still be visible from Sunday to Tuesday evening.

However, since 2017, the group has been losing hold on major territories in both countries to US-backed military forces. At the height of the group's power in 2014, the group controlled almost a third of both Iraq and Syria .

The Moon orbits Earth in an ellipse, an oval that brings it closer to and farther from Earth as it goes around. The term went viral in March 2011 when some incorrectly speculated that the moon's closeness to Earth may have affected the giant natural disaster that hit Japan that month. It just so happens that this week's perigee will be about 362 miles (583 kilometers) closer to us than last month's supermoon, according to NASA.

The third and final supermoon of the year will take place on March 20, 2019 (but, again, it won't be as big as the February one).

The moon will appear particularly large when it is close to the horizon thanks to an optical illusion known as "the moon illusion". It's predicted to be the biggest and brightest supermoon of 2019.

The super blue blood moon was covered by cloud for many Kiwis.
