Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen sentenced to three years in prison

"Cohen was guilty on many charges unrelated to me, but he plead to two campaign charges which were not criminal", Trump said. Renting campaign office space, printing bumper stickers and yard signs, hiring campaign staff, paying for polling, and buying broadcast ads are all obligations that exist for the objective of influencing an election. ABC News' George Stephanopoulos asked Cohen in the interview that aired Friday morning.

Donald Trump tried to shield himself from rising legal heat on Thursday (Dec 13), with tweets insisting that he never ordered his former lawyer Michael Cohen to break the law.

"Despite that many campaign finance lawyers have strongly stated that I did nothing wrong with respect to campaign finance laws, if they even apply, because this was not campaign finance", Trump tweeted. Prosecutors say Cohen did so at the direction of then candidate Trump, and that the violations were felonies. "Whatever he did, he did on his own".

Cohen said the McDougal agreement was between Trump and David Pecker, the CEO of American Media Inc., publisher of the National Enquirer and a longtime friend of the president.

Prosecutors in the case, while advocating for a "substantial term of imprisonment", have said Cohen deserved less than what the guidelines call for because he has been at least somewhat cooperative, but they noted Cohen never agreed to fully cooperate and tell all that he knew.

The former lawyer and Trump fixer added: "He knows the truth". It isn't clear from that recording, or other evidence made public, whether Trump and Cohen ever specifically discussed whether the payments were legal.

I won't lead Conservatives into next election, says Theresa May
Tusk said he would not negotiate with May over a legal guarantee, but that he would be available to her over the Christmas period. Even though she survived a no-confidence vote held within her own Conservative Party this week, it was also a sort of defeat.

GREENE: Well, you did, though, have his former lawyer - the former lawyer to the president of the United States, Michael Cohen, being sentenced to three years in prison.

"The man doesn't tell the truth. I felt it was my duty to cover up his dirty deeds", Cohen said.

"Michael Cohen should have known what he was doing", Trump added.

"He lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence", Trump tweeted about Cohen last week.

"I'm done with the lying".

According to a CNN report, Trump attended a meeting in August 2015 which federal prosecutors believe was at the centre of a scheme to violate campaign finance laws in order to secure victory for Trump. The Prosecutor looks at the "secret and illegal" payments as a campaign aid, because they had been made, in order to mitigate Trumps election chances in 2016. Cohen said his role was limited to reviewing papers.

Juventus spokesman Pavel Nedved said: 'Atletico have a very good squad and it will be a very hard game for us. The UEFA Champions League Last 16 draw will take place today, and could bring about some massive clashes.

The statement of admitted facts, according to NBC, says the the goal of the payment "was to suppress the woman's story so as to prevent it from influencing the election". What Michael Cohen is now saying.

Cohen is cooperating with authorities, and the special counsel Robert Mueller's office has said he provided valuable information for their investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and the possibility of collusion with members of Trump's campaign. "But I want somebody that thinks like I do".

Part of Cohen's cooperation with the Mueller team involves the alleged Trump Organization real-estate project in Moscow, about which Cohen admitted on November 29 that he lied to Congress.

Cohen acknowledged that he "didn't display good judgment" in lying on Trump's behalf and that his family was disappointed in him.

"He's a very different individual", Cohen said. "I am done being loyal to President Trump, and my first loyalty belongs to my wife, my daughter, my son and this country".
