Mr Corbyn labelled Theresa May's government as the "most shambolic and chaotic" in British history.

She added: "But I can confirm today that we intent to return to the meaningful vote debate in the week commencing 7 January, and hold the vote the following week".

The Labour Party, which is under pressure from smaller opposition parties to propose a motion of no confidence against the government this week, said on Sunday it would seek to force May to bring the deal back to Parliament for a vote before Christmas.

"The sensible thing is now to allow parliament to vote on each of the forms of Brexit canvassed, including the prime minister's deal", he said in a statement.

Theresa May is to appear in front of MPs at 3.30pm this afternoon and Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has said the motion will be tabled if the prime minister fails to set a date for vote on her Brexit deal.
