Company recalls tampons due to 'quality-related' defect

Certain Kotex tampons recalled following reports they unravel, come apart inside body

The tampons were manufactured between October 7, 2016, and October 16, 2018, Kimberly-Clark said.

"Kimberly-Clark has received reports from consumers of the U by Kotex Sleek Tampons, Regular Absorbency, unraveling and/or coming apart upon removal, and in some cases causing users to seek medical attention to remove tampon pieces left in the body".

The affected products were sold across Canada.

Problems related to the recalled products can be reported by health care professionals in the United States to MedWatch and in Canada to Health Canada.

A voluntary recall has been issued for Kotex tampons after reports of pieces of the tampon breaking off in the body.

If you have a box of Kotex tampons and you would like to check to see if it's included in the recall, you can enter the lot number on the Kotex website.

Other consumers also reported vaginal infections, irritation and injury from the product, the company said in a statement.

No other U by Kotex-branded products are being recalled.

HuffPost reached out to Kimberly-Clark for further comment, but the company did not offer any new or additional information.

Consumers who purchased the recalled product should stop using it immediately and contact Kimberly-Clark's consumer service team at 1-888-255-3499 between 7:30 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
