Day is reportedly expected to retain a couple of Ohio State's top personnel staffers, though he'll likely be bringing in some of his own assistant coaches.

Tuesday's press conference is set for 2 p.m. Meyer will be joined by Day and athletic director Gene Smith.

The Urban Meyer coaching era at Ohio State will end with the Rose Bowl vs. Washington on January 1, the school confirmed for The Dispatch on Tuesday, and the Ryan Day era will begin in earnest.

Yahoo reports Meyer still plans to coach his final game in the Rose Bowl for the Buckeyes. Meyer fought through painful headaches and was visibly struggling during games this season, occasionally rubbing his head and bending over. Spence would be suspended for the Buckeyes' bowl game that year, however, after failing a drug test.

The wild card was Georgia beating the mighty Tide, which could have meant two SEC teams for the second straight season. The winners of the two semis will meet in the National Championship Game in Santa Clara, California on Jan 7th.

The university announced the decision Tuesday but did not say why he was leaving after seven years at the Big Ten school, where he has an 82-9 record. Much like Meyer's health concerns about his heart were real in the past, there remains a pocket of college football fans who don't believe it and they think Meyer will be back on the sideline in the future.

It started with him being placed on administrative leave back in July after reports surfaced that he was aware of spousal abuse allegations involving Zach Smith, an assistant coach on his staff, a claim he vehemently denied but eventually led to a three-game suspension by the university.

Meyer won two national championships with the Florida Gators before taking the head coaching spot in Columbus ahead of the 2012 season. If Florida State is mired in mediocrity for the next two years, they could pull the plug and chase Meyer to see if he'd be interested in returning to the Sunshine State. "He shouldn't be coaching, and I would argue that he shouldn't have been coaching the last month".

At Ohio State: Spence saw spot action in his freshman year at Ohio State, but took over as a full-time starter as a sophomore and finished the year with 50 tackles and eight sacks. Urban Meyer, he really can't coach.

Notre Dame - Meyer was Notre Dame's wide receivers coach from 1996-2000 before he left for his first head coaching gig at Bowling Green.

"I am very shocked about it but I wish coach Meyer everlasting success because he's a GOAT", Cavazos said.

Day, 39, is in his second season on the Buckeyes' staff after previously working for Chip Kelly with the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Remember that initially Meyer said he was going to spend more time with his family and get healthy.
