George H.W. Bush's service dog, Sully, is honored: 'Mission complete'

Friends, family and the public have been filing past the casket of former President George H.W. Bush in the Capitol Rotunda since Monday night, but he had a special visit from Sully, his service dog, Tuesday.

An aide helped Dole, 95, who arrived in a wheelchair, to his feet and Dole, once standing, saluted.

According to USA TODAY, Trump on Saturday proclaimed a day of mourning.

On Sunday, students, staff and visitors had flocked to Bush's presidential library on the campus of Texas A&M University, with thousands of mourners paying their respects at a weekend candlelight vigil at a nearby pond and others contributing to growing flower memorials at Bush statues at both the library and a park in downtown Houston.

Graham has also pushed for the Magnitsky Act sanctions issued against the 15 assassins to be extended to the crown prince as well. He said it seemed as though the White House's response to the Khashoggi killing was that "you can kill a journalist".

At the rotunda, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence said there was a kindness about Bush that "was evident to everyone who ever met him". The military honor guard hefted his casket up the East Front steps and into the Rotunda - the same room he strolled as a congressman in the late 1960s, and which he later strode through in 1989, after taking the presidential oath of office on the Capitol's West Front steps.

"As much as our family is going to miss this dog, we're comforted to know he'll bring the same joy to his new home, Walter Reed, that he brought to 41", Bush's son, former president George W. Bush, wrote on Instagram. "He was 94 and is survived by his five children and their spouses, 17 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and two siblings", the former president's office said in a statement. He will be laid to rest next to his wife, Barbara Bush, who died in April of this year.

His body will return to Houston on Wednesday evening and will lie in repose at St. Martin's Episcopal Church until Thursday morning when he will be eulogized during a funeral at the church.
