In commemoration of 2018 World AIDS day, Lagos State Government has urged residents to know their HIV status and desist from all forms of discrimination against patients.

- About 35 million people have died from AIDS- or HIV-related illnesses since 1981, including 940,000 in 2017. It is also crucial to achieving the 90-90-90 targets and empowering people to make choices about HIV prevention so they can protect themselves and their loved ones.

The Director General, National Agency for the Control of AIDS, Dr Sani Aliyu, on Saturday called on Nigerians to get tested to enable them to know their HIV status.

However, it is also an important reminder that despite progress made, the world can not become complacent in its response to HIV.

- Nearly 22 million people were accessing antiretroviral drugs in 2017, compared with 8 million in 2010.
