Shooting at Galleria Mall in Birmingham

Alabama mall shooting suspect dead in pre-Black Friday incident, reports say

The mall, located in the Birmingham suburb of Hoover, reopened at 6 a.m. Friday, a Riverchase Galleria mall security officer said. Obviously, the mall was packed with people doing their early Black Friday shopping, and chaos erupted when the shots were fired. A 12-year-old bystander was also shot and taken to Children's Hospital by a Hoover Fire Department rescue squad.

Rector said that the incident began with an altercation between an 18-year-old and another individual in a common area between JC Penney and Foot Action.

Now, mall officials said the mall will remain closed until further notice.

"We are devastated by the incident that happened tonight in our shopping center", Galleria officials said in a statement.
