Blizzard Activision announces Diablo Immortal for iOS

Blizzard president on Diablo Immortal: "We want awesome mobile games and we think this could be one of them”

That didn't stop fans from insisting that Immortal was a "reskin" of other games being made by its developer, Netease.

The reaction to the news was less than impressive, with fans of the series all around the world noting their disapproval on social media.

Over the weekend, BlizzCon 2018 took place and among the surprises was a brand-new Diablo game.

According to a report from Kotaku, a couple anonymous sources say that Blizzard planned to tease Diablo 4 and pulled those plans at the last minute.

So there you have it. Diablo Immortal is in development for mobile devices and Diablo IV is unofficially (though definitely) in development as well. And it always will be. That's great news for those Diablo fans looking for a similar experience on mobile, but not so good for hardcore Diablo gamers who are anxiously waiting for Diablo 4. And we hope that as they get opportunities to see people play, see more of the gameplay, they'll see that passion that's in this game... In Diablo Immortal, players will embark on thrilling expeditions, take part in dynamic events across unique public zones, and plunder instanced dungeons, hacking and slashing their way through the demonic minions surrounding them. Though this is a Diablo game, it's not Diablo 4 and they wanted to make that clear when delivering this adventure on the mobile platform. Stopping short of formally announcing Diablo 4, Blizzard has stated that it's working on the Diablo game its fans want, but that it wouldn't appear at Blizzcon.

If Blizzard had shared a teaser for Diablo 4 at BlizzCon, even a wafer-thin one like a GIF of a flaming "4", Diablo Immortal's reception may have been more positive. Blizzcon may have wrapped up Saturday night, but fans are still upset over the announcement of Diablo: Immortal. You could have done a Bethesda and said yes we're working on this big new game but it's a long way away.
