Notorious mob boss Whitey Bulger was found dead in U.S. Penitentiary Hazelton in West Virginia after being transferred from an Oklahoma City prison on Tuesday (October 30).

Corrections officials relocated the 89-year-old from a temporary stay at a facility in Oklahoma to the high-security USP Hazelton in Bruceton Mills, W.Va., on Monday. In 2013, Bulger was convicted of various crimes, including being linked to 11 murders.

While she was given eight years behind bars, Bulger was sentenced to life in prison.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons online inmate log had listed Bulger as an inmate there early Tuesday morning, but by the afternoon he was no longer there. He was pronounced dead by the Preston County medical examiner after failed life-saving measures.No staff or other inmates were injured, the prisons bureau said.

He went on the run with his girlfriend Catherine Greig, ending up in Santa Monica, California. Suspicious package mailed to CNN's Atlanta headquarters
