Mega Millions Jackpot Surges To New Record $868 Million

As luck would have it, Md. and Va. have produced big lottery winners

No winning ticket matched all six numbers in Tuesday's drawing.

The Mega Millions jackpot rose from US$667 million after no one hit the six numbers drawn on Tuesday, extending a winless streak for the top prize that has lasted since July.

If no one wins this jackpot, the next one will be at least $869 million, Mega Millions officials said during the drawing, which is taped in Atlanta.

While no one won the jackpot Wednesday, one person from Madisonville, Ky. walked away with a winning of $1 million and someone in London, Ky. walked away with $10,000.

The result is a staggering $900 million jackpot for Friday night's drawing.

The immediate cash value of the Mega Millions prize, which winners can opt to take, is US$494.5 million.

The jackpot had swelled because nobody has won since July 24.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
