A plane carrying Melania Trump was forced to land after a "haze of smoke" was spotted on board, according to USA media reports. The plane is reported to have experienced an unspecified 'mechanical issue'.

About 10 minutes after takeoff, reporters noticed a thin haze of smoke and detected a burning smell, according to CNN.

She could be seen safely walking off the plane after the flight returned to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

Klein spoke exclusively with PIX11 outside her home where she says she's been harassed after the video went viral. The 53-year-old woman can also be seen in the video yelling at another white woman who tried to intervene.

"Minor mechanical issue. Everything is fine and everyone is safe", Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's Communications Director, said in a statement.

The smoke eventually cleared and the smell dissipated. Reports show that smoke and burning smells became overwhelming, forcing members of the press pool to hold wet towels over their faces.

Mrs Trump was travelling to a hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to meet with families of children who were affected by exposure to opioids while in the womb when the incident occurred.
