Nevertheless, the meeting failed as Butler was "sitting out, awaiting the organization to honor his trade request" (Jon Krawczynski).

However, Timberwolves president of basketball operations and head coach Tom Thibodeau doesn't seem all that committed to the idea of trading Butler.

He isn't inclined to trade the forward who helped Minnesota make the playoffs for the first time since 2004, and it's hard to blame him. The locker room would be an awkward place for the four-time All-Star after he was excused from Monday's media day, and he won't be showing up for training camp this week.

On Wednesday, the New York Times reported that Butler prefers a trade to Miami, and while the Heat are interested in acquiring Butler, they have found trade talks hard.

Butler, 29, appeared in 59 games last season for the Timberwolves, averaging 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.0 steals.

Although, it's not clear if that would be enough to cause the Wolves to pull the trigger on a deal.

Miami remains an attractive destination, with Josh Richardson, Goran Dragic, Kelly Olynyk, and Hassan Whiteside all players that could potentially come back to Minnesota.

I still think that the Miami Heat are favorites to land Butler.

"Our job is to seek out the best (trade) for us, to find something that's good for us - and we're interested in doing it", Thibodeau said.

"One thing about everybody who's here, from the coaching staff, players, everybody's familiar with each other, we've been through a lot together, so we've just got to keep trying". I understand that with being in the league for so many years, but got to try to just see what we can do.

After Brett Brown's "star-hunting" comments made during the NBA Draft, the Sixers have been attached to every superstar looking for a change of scenery, making Butler-to-the-Sixers rumors a given since the news dropped.
