Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino Given 8-Month Prison Sentence

Party's over: Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino, who shot to fame as a cast member on MTV's reality hit Jersey Shore, was sentenced to eight months in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to tax evasion.

His brother, Marc Sorrentino, was also sentenced on Friday.

After serving his prison sentence, Sorrentino will complete two years of supervised release, 500 hours of community service, pay a $10,000 fine and $123,000 in restitution, which has already been paid.

Sorrentino posted on his Instagram tonight. His attorney was hoping for probation, but the government had pushed for at least a 14-month prison term.

So it's official, Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino is facing some prison time after his conviction for tax evasion. The brothers also submitted false personal tax returns which failed to report all of the income they received, and Michael failed to file a personal tax return in 2011, despite earning $1,995,757 that year.

Sorrentino is also planning to marry his longtime girlfriend Lauren Pesce in the coming weeks.

Michael Sorrentino admitted that in tax year 2011, he earned taxable income, including some that was paid in cash, and that he took certain actions to hide some of his income to avoid paying the full amount of taxes he owed.

NJ.com reported that prosecutors said Sorrentino, 36, and his brother, Marc, created several businesses based on their in-person and television appearances, product endorsements, and product sales.
