In fact, the President told reporter Cecilia Vega she wasn't "thinking" - words reflected in a corrected transcript the White House distributed on Tuesday morning.

ABC's Cecilia Vega and CNN's Kaitlan Collins are two new targets for President Donald Trump.

Ms Vega quickly replied: "I'm not, thank you Mr. President". Trump instantly shot down the question suggesting that Vega was out of line because the subject of the press conference was the forthcoming trade deal.

The White House transcript initially suggested Trump said "thanking", not "thinking". Trump said, "Go ahead" before her question, and she paused for a moment during which it seemed like Vega had clearly heard what he said about her but made a decision to ignore it.

As Cecelia Vega of ABC took a moment to compose herself when Trump called on her, she said, "I'm not thinking, Mr. President".

He then scolded Vega for not asking a question about trade, but rather about the FBI investigation into Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Later on in the press conference, however, the president addressed the Kavanaugh allegations. "You never do", Trump responded.

On the back of a new trilateral trade deal with Canada and Mexico, the U.S. president went off the rails, lashing out at members of the press for asking him about other issues.

Eventually, Trump allowed questions on the matter, which has consumed Washington as the FBI investigates claims of sexual assault levied against Kavanaugh.
