His remarks could refer to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates or Bahrain - all close U.S. military allies that consider Iran a menace because of its support for militant groups in the Middle East.

Ahvaz is in the centre of Khuzestan province, where there have been sporadic protests by the Arab minority in mainly Shi'ite Iran.

IRNA reported that civilians, including women and children, who were watching the parade in the southwestern city Ahvaz, are among the dead and injured.

Saturday's attack in Ahvaz killed at least 25 people and wounded over 60.

Iranian local media reported that gunmen wearing military uniforms fired at the Iranian forces during a military parade, an attack that lasted for about 10 minutes.
