Supreme Court pick Kavanaugh: I will not not let false accusations push me out

President Donald Trump on Tuesday accused Democrats of playing a "con game" with Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.

Before news broke of the sexual misconduct allegations, Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination process was expected to take about three months, from Justice Anthony Kennedy's resignation in late June to a full Senate vote on the current nominee expected in late September.

Kavanaugh staunchly denies both accusations.

She added: "This is a country where you're innocent until proven guilty except when you're a conservative Republican".

Mr Kavanaugh said Dr Ford's friend does not remember being at a party with him, nor has anyone corroborated the accuser's story.

Judge deems Cosby ‘sexually violent predator’ at sentencing hearing
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele rejected the call for a softer punishment. "The jury thinks otherwise". The judge said it's "time for justice" as he sentenced Cosby to state prison and fined him $25,000.

The president said Ramirez was "all messed up" and "totally inebriated", and that it would be "a disgusting, awful thing for future political people, judges" if the Senate does not confirm Kavanaugh.

President Donald Trump accused Democrats on Tuesday of using a "con game" to try scuttling Kavanaugh's nomination and disparaged Ramirez, saying she herself conceded she was "totally inebriated and all messed up". Ford, a research psychologist in California, says Kavanaugh pinned her down and groped her at a high school party.

He added he was not present at a party like the one described by Ford and noted that others Ford said were at the gathering had no recollection of it. I know his heart.

It was a point he hit on again and again: That the same people who'd given a fair hearing to the women accusing him of assault and harassment ought to listen to him - and, indeed, to believe him. In order to be appointed to the Supreme Court, Kavanaugh's nomination must be confirmed by the US Senate, which the Republican Party narrowly controls 51-49. A major slip-up could endanger Kavanaugh's confirmation and create political pain for the GOP in the midterm elections.

During the almost 14-minute interview, Kavanaugh previewed the defense he is likely to put forward at Thursday's hearing, where he and Ford are scheduled to testify.

It is rare for nominees to the Supreme Court to give interviews.

Two women - Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez - have come out publicly in the last 10 days, alleging that they were sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh 36 and 25 years ago respectively. Republican leaders and Trump have rejected Democratic demands for the FBI to investigate the allegations.

The Senate Democratic leader, Chuck Schumer, says Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell owes Christine Blasey Ford an apology for calling her allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh a smear job. Collins said she remained undecided about Kavanaugh.

The White House continued to stand behind Justice Kavanaugh. But Kavanaugh, a 53-year-old judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, apparently believed the charges against him required an unprecedented defense, and he responded Monday with the interview and a fierce letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa).

"The second accuser doesn't even know, she thinks maybe it could have been him, maybe not - she admits she was drunk", the President told reporters.

Michael Avenatti, the attorney for porn star Stormy Daniels, said he has information that Kavanaugh and high school friend Mark Judge had plied women with drugs and alcohol at parties so other men could gang rape them.
