Forecasters say Florence will pass between Bermuda and the Bahamas on Tuesday and Wednesday and start its approach to the US on Thursday morning.
Florence was a Category 3 hurricane as of 11 a.m. Monday, with sustained winds of 115 miles per hour. Forecasters said it now has maximum sustained winds of about 130 miles per hour and even stronger gusts.
While Florence is forecast to stay north of Florida, large swells will impact the east coast of our state resulting in life-threatening surf and rip currents.

Maximum sustained winds are now at 65 miles per hour and the storm is moving west at 9 miles per hour southeast of Bermuda. Ralph Northam (D) has declared a state of emergency in anticipation of possible effects of Tropical Storm Florence .
In North Carolina, officials already had ordered some 250,000 residents and visitors to begin evacuating the Outer Banks barrier islands.
The storm "is too powerful and its path is too uncertain to take any chances", South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster said, issuing his state's emergency declaration.
"So when this is all said and done this is probably going to be the costliest storm in the history of the Carolinas because not only are you dealing with a major hurricane hit, but you're dealing with flooding of biblical proportions", Bastardi explains.
"The earliest reasonable time that tropical-storm-force winds will reach the coast of the Carolinas is Wednesday night, but the most likely time is Thursday morning", the center shared. Florence is expected to remain an extremely risky major hurricane through Thursday.
According the US-based National Hurricane Centre at 1pm, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 130mph.

Gov. Rick Scott released a statement on Monday urging Floridians to be prepared for the unexpected and remain on alert about Hurricane Florence.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.

This morning the storm grew to Category 4 strength, and was predicted to intensify but Florence was sticking to a course that would send it south of Bermuda over the next 24 hours.
