Trump tells Apple to make products in US to avoid China tariffs

Because of the import tariffs which will be imposed to China (Trump acknowledges they will be massive), Apple prices will increase.

Analysts do not see any resolution of the trade dispute until after the U.S. has its mid-term election on Nov 6 and, possibly, until early next year.

That resulted in China posting a smaller overall trade surplus of $27.91 billion for the month.

While the White House says they are still deliberating on the details of adding US$200 billion in Chinese imports to a list of tariff targets, President Trump said Friday that there is more where that came from.

Apple has not responded to requests for comment.

Apple voiced its concerns about these tariffs in a public filing Friday, arguing that tariffs could make a wide range of products the company is selling to US consumers more expensive. Interestingly though, the iPhone was not mentioned.

Apple did say its MacMini, a low-cost computer that comes without a keyboard or mouse, would be affected.

Apple's stock closed down 0.8% in Friday's session. The company said that "main logic boards with microprocessing units" could face levies, along with equipment used for research and development.

Still, Apple's business would no doubt face some serious headwinds due to possible tariffs, and Apple continued on to say: "Our concern with these tariffs is that the U.S. will be hardest hit, and that will result in lower United States growth and competitiveness and higher prices for USA consumers". The combined amount would cover the value of all goods China ships to the United States.

"In summary, [the proposed tariff list] is so broad and encompasses so many information, communication and technology (ICT) products that significant consumer harm is unavoidable", Intel said. Investors were told that the company was still evaluating the proposed list of goods that would be hit by the tariffs. It's a general trend where flagships are more and more expensive. In a recent Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Apple warned that tariffs and "other protectionist measures" could hurt the company financially.
