"Apple has determined that a small percentage of the keyboards in certain MacBook and MacBook Pro models may exhibit one or more of the following behaviors", the company says, "Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly; Letters or characters do not appear; Key (s) feel "sticky" or do not respond in a consistent manner".
Anyone affected by the issue who has already paid to have their keyboard fixed is eligible for a refund, Apple said. Apparently, the switches are so delicate that the mere presence of dust can force them to fail. One corporate issuer of the MacBook Pros in question reported to me that its business has encountered a significant number of keyboard issues, but "less than 5% for sure".

The butterfly design that Apple created was meant to address these supposed issues, though customers had never complained about the previous Apple keyboard design. And unfortunately, fixing the problem isn't easy; at worst, it can involve replacing the entire keyboard.
