It turns out, the "b" is for burgers, and the name change a marketing move to bring customer awareness to a new line of seven hamburgers released by the chain, which has been better-known for its breakfasts.

After a week of teasing fans on Twitter and spurring thousands and thousands of tweets guessing what the "b" could stand for, the restaurant chain made the big announcement Monday. IHOP-err IHOB-is so serious about the rebrand and focusing on craft burgers they've already begun changing the signs at restaurants around the nation. Until now, the International House of Pancakes had been concealing what the "b" stood for.

"But these are new 'Ultimate Steakburgers", the website stated, with "all-natural, 100 percent USDA choice black Angus beef".

Twitter users also didn't think IHOP's switch to burgers cut the mustard either. For a limited time, the burgers are available at IHOP locations with unlimited fries and a drink starting at $6.99.

IHOP's splashy but temporary renaming to IHOb is burning up the Twitter trending charts and drawing smack talk from the likes of Wendy's, Denny's and even beef sandwich-fillings brand Steak-umm. The company explains, "Our new burgers are so good, we changed our name". But IHOP - sorry, IHOb - wants to be known as a place to get lunch and dinner, not just breakfast and brunch.

The hints of a name change had spurred guesses on social media - and some disappointment Monday at the reveal. "We've pancaked pancakes for 60 years now so it's the flawless time to start burgerin" burgers, and we're kicking it off by flipping the "p" in IHOP to a "b' for burgers". As you can tell from the ridiculous marketing campaign, IHOP flipped the uppercase "P" to create a lowercase 'b.' Did they do this so the change wouldn't seem jarring?
