Former teammate says former Saluki who stopped shooter has always been selfless

"There is a male student at Noblesville West Middle School who has been detained", said Kevin Jowitt, Noblesville police chief.

Another student said that her science teacher told his class at the beginning of previous year that he would throw "tennis and golf balls and do whatever it takes if an intruder ever came into our room".

Jason Seaman was shot three times as he intercepted the gunman in a bid to protect his students.

'He is that hero teacher who stopped the shooter from hurting more young people, ' Brooks said.

Though no longer a student at Noblesville West, the freshman said she has friends who still attend the middle school and she feared for their safety but thanked Seaman for his heroic acts.

Seaman released a statement saying in part, "I want to let everyone know that I was injured but am doing great".

Seventh-grade science teacher Jason Seaman is being praised for what many are calling selfless actions and quick thinking.

One student, now a freshman at Noblesville High School who was in his class two years ago, said that Seaman was always extremely prepared for anything.

"He said he would do whatever it took to save us", she added.

The wounded teacher was identified as Jason Seaman, 29, and the statement said he was in good condition. He described him as "a nice kid most of the times" and said he often joked with the classmates. Police say it could be as late as Tuesday that he may appear in juvenile court.

"I have no words because it was such an incredible act of caring", she said. "He's in all my classes and it's just a shock that he would do something like that". With each step they took and each hour that's passed since the shooting, there's a chilling realization of what happened and what their teacher did in that moment.

The students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shouted "USA, not NRA!" and caused brief delays at the checkout as customers navigated carts around them on the floor. "Students, teachers, faculty acted swiftly and appropriately and I'm sure because of that lives were saved".

The campaign had raised almost $50,000 by 10 p.m. Saturday.

The 23rd school shooting this year, this incident is just one week after the Sante Fe school shooting that killed eight students and two teachers.

The Florida attack inspired students from that school and others throughout the country to call for stricter gun control measures.
