A gunman has been shot by a police officer after opening fire at a high school.
Authorities first got reports of an armed man on campus just after 8 a.m., police Chief Steve Howell said. He added that the suspect's wounds were not life-threatening, that no one else was hurt and that the suspect was in police custody. According to the administration at AFC Schools, when they were made aware of the situation, the school went on soft lock down and they had been contacted by administration in Sterling that they were also on soft lockdown. No students or staff were injured, thanks to the actions of the officer, Howell said. Dallas chased him when he ran outside, trying to shoot a police officer.

The school resource officer confronted the suspect, who then fled from the school with the officer in pursuit, Howell said. The suspect is now in custody, with Dixon PD saying they believe that he acted alone, and that there is no further threat to the public.
