Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was on hand Monday to announce that Amazon Inc. would be expanding its Vancouver operations to the tune of 3000 new jobs.

The corporate positions will focus on e-commerce, cloud-based systems and machine learning, according to Amazon, jobs which Klugen believes will only continue to increase in demand across the tech industry as more turn to cloud technologies.

Trudeau said at a press conference in Vancouver that Amazon chose Canada for a number of reasons, including the availability of skilled labor talent.

He noted that Amazon has had considerable success recruiting and hiring Canadians - a mix of experienced coders, university graduates and people who have chosen to live and work in Canada. Currently, the company's Vancouver workers produce new products and services for the company's worldwide retail business and Amazon Web Services.
