Breaking: NASCAR acquires the ARCA Racing Series

A former NASCAR driver was killed in a vehicle accident in Georgia on Saturday. James Hylton Jr., the 61-year-old son of James and Evelyn Hylton, also died in the crash. Neither was driving, according to the NASCAR report, and the driver was taken to a hospital in Greenville, S.C.

The truck was towing a race vehicle.

The elder Hylton began competing in NASCAR's Cup Series in 1964 and over a 32-year-period competed in 602 races.

With that said, ARCA will continue operating independently until after the 2019 season, at which point NASCAR plans to better align its interests beyond just the three national tours - now known as Monster Energy Cup, Xfinity and Camping World Trucks.
