That stands to change under Mike Pompeo, a veteran of Congress who has served Donald Trump as director of the Central Intelligence Agency. They warned Democrats not to disrupt Trump's efforts at a denuclearization deal.

Sen. Chris Coons of DE, the last committee Democrat to disclose how he'll vote, said calls are coming in overwhelmingly opposed to Pompeo.

But Democratic Sens. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin of West Virginia have said they will support Pompeo.

All eyes had been on a handful of moderate Democrats who Republicans are trying to win over, including Manchin, Donnelly, and Sen.

Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has said he'll oppose Pompeo's nomination, meaning Republicans would need at least one Democrat in order to confirm him in the full floor vote.

The Trump factor hasn't been the only sticking point for Democrats, who have argued that Pompeo's previous statements regarding Muslims and LGBT rights and his hawkish views should disqualify him from serving in a key diplomatic role. In his Central Intelligence Agency confirmation hearings past year, he said, "Russia has reasserted itself aggressively, invading and occupying Ukraine, threatening Europe, and doing almost nothing to aid in the destruction of ISIS".

"This is where I think the hypocrisy of the place is very telling", Gardner said.

Pompeo needs 51 votes to be confirmed by the full Senate to succeed Rex Tillerson, who was ousted in March - and with Paul's opposition and Sen.
