Two major differences would radically change the iPhone as we know it: a curved screen and touchless control.

Bloomberg says that these features are likely two years away from release.

Apple's latest iPhones have a feature called 3D Touch that responds differently depending on different finger pressures.

Apple is preparing something new for its future iPhones.

But it probably won't make it on to the next iPhone X, which is expected to land in September.

If Apple were to succeed in developing curved screens for its iPhone series, consumers can expect to see future releases rocking this type of display. The iPhone X's OLED screen curves slightly at the bottom, but the shape is mostly invisible to the human eye. Also, the new screens would curve "inward gradually from top to bottom", not along the sides like with Samsung phones, the publication said. Also in the works alongside the new displays is a new gesture control feature.

National Championship Game Preview: No. 1 Villanova vs. No
Deadly 3-point shooting and an abundance of offensive options make this team a death machine for any coach to have to handle. The Wolverines were unranked when this season began, and didn't even crack the Top 25 for the first time until mid-January.

The controls would allow you to perform some iOS tasks by hovering your finger over your screen without actually tapping it, according to sources close to the company who spoke to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

The curved screens that Apple is working on are not similar to the ones that the company's South Korean rival, Samsung, has been using for its Galaxy-branded handsets. Google's ATAP research group has been working this sort of technology, too, through its Project Soli program.

Samsung now uses smartphone screens that curve, but its curved screens slope down at the edges, rather than from top to bottom. The feature would be based on technology built into the display itself rather than via a motion sensor on the phone's bezel, like with Samsung's implementation, the person explained.
