Report: Georgia meeting with Tom Crean

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN tweeted out that Crean will become the next head coach at the University of Georgia.

Crean had a tremendous tenure at IN, taking them to the Sweet 16 three times and he took Marquette to the final four IN 2003.

"Tom Crean is one of the most successful coaches in college basketball over the past two decades", McGarity said.

During Crean's time in Bloomington, the Hoosiers went to four NCAA tournaments, reaching the Sweet 16 on three occasions.

"I'm extremely excited to have him leading Georgia basketball into the future". Fox took the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament twice in nine seasons, last in 2015.

"I've never lost the drive to coach, but I haven't (been) consumed with the fact I'm not coaching", Crean said, per Shannon Ryan of the Chicago Tribune. The 2016 Big Ten Coach of the Year guided IN to two outright Big Ten regular-season titles and a No. 1 seed IN the 2013 NCAA Tournament IN those nine seasons.

Earlier Thursday, USA TODAY Sports reported that there was mutual interest between Crean and the Bulldogs, according to two people with knowledge of the situation.

The 51-year-old spent 31 years on the sideline prior to the current campaign, working his way through the coaching ranks before taking over at Marquette in 1999. He began his career at IN with the program on NCAA probation, which was a result of more than 100 impermissible phone calls made to recruits by predecessor Kelvin Sampson and his assistants.

Georgia reportedly tried to hire former Ohio State coach Thad Matta, but Matta turned the Bulldogs down.
