A day after a 27-year-old "mentally unfit" tribal man in Kerala's Attapady died after being beaten up by a mob, at least 16 people have been arrested in Palakkad district.

Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram said a report had been sought from the Chief Secretary of Kerala on the death of the tribal youth.

According to police, Madhu died hours after that image was taken Thursday, vomiting inside a police jeep on his way to a local hospital.

Meanwhile, deceased's sister Chandrika alleged that forest officials first spotted the cave where Madhu lived and they alerted local people about his presence there.
