In freakish Twitter thread, Trump questions Obama's response to Russian meddling

President Donald Trump tweeted a quote from former President Barack Obama on Tuesday morning as part of his continual attempts to downplay Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Trump has repeatedly downplayed and doubted Russian meddling and its effects on the American political process in 2016 and beyond.

On Monday, after a weekend filled with tweets about the Mueller indictments, Trump falsely suggested Obama didn't "do something" about Russian meddling. Trump has adamantly denied any cooperation between his team and Russian Federation and has called the investigation a Democratic hoax. The indictment noted that the Internet Research Agency had a multimillion-dollar budget and hundreds of workers. "The Trump campaign did nothing wrong - no collusion!" In October 2016, after the intelligence community stated that Russian Federation had penetrated the Democratic National Committee's computers, Trump suggested the DNC had hacked itself and released its own emails.

In December 2016, Obama issued sanctions against nine Russian individuals and entities for election meddling and harassing USA diplomats in Moscow, including Russia's GRU and FSB intelligence services.

Trump's focus on voter fraud in 2016 specifically targeted urban areas with diverse populations.

Mr Trump has also denied allegations of collusion.

"Russia's cyberactivities were meant to influence the election, erode faith in USA democratic institutions, sow doubt about the integrity of our electoral process, and undermine confidence in the institutions of the US government", the Obama White House said in a statement.
