NBC declares victory after Olympics audience drops 6%

The night's numbers also formed part of a 17 percent decline in ratings for NBC for this year's games over those in Sochi. However, if you go NBC' 18 to NBC'14, last night's Mike Tirico fronted coverage took a small stumble of 4% from that Friday of just over four years ago when a number of potential viewers were clearly out for a romantic or hopefully romantic dinner.

The flagship NBC network is drawing 22 million viewers a night and an additional 2 million are tuning in to cable and online programming, executives of Comcast Corp.'s entertainment division said today in a press conference.

Viewership was the third largest for a Winter Olympics opening ceremony not shown live in the US behind the 33.8 million average for the 1994 Lillehammer Games, which were carried by CBS, and the Sochi Games.

Last night's NBC/NBCSN average of 23.9 million viewers dominated the competition - almost quadrupling the combined 6.1 million primetime viewers for ABC, CBS and FOX. It is renowned for its unsurpassed Olympic heritage, award-winning production, and ability to aggregate the largest audiences in USA television history.

· NBC's PyeongChang Olympics broadcast last night (8-11:10 p.m. ET) averaged 21.4 million viewers and posted an 11.6/22 household rating. 2/8 17.2 million 16.0 million 8% Saturday 2/10 24.2 million 21.4 million 13%.

"This marks the first time NBC has ranked #1 in total viewers at any point during the season since it won the 2001-02 season - the first time that the network carried Winter Olympics with the highly rated Salt Lake City games, held on American soil", Deadline reports. For the season, NBC is averaging 9.569 million viewers to CBS' 9.385 million.

With digital figured in, NBC's Total Audience Delivery for the Olympics climbed to 26 million Sunday night.

Only ABC aired originals against the Olympics. They are followed by ABC with 5.911 million and Fox with 5.892 million.

The week's 10 most-watched prime-time programs were NBC's coverage of the Winter Olympics opening ceremony and its Sunday, Saturday and Thursday Olympics coverage; CBS' "NCIS" and "Bull"; NBC's "This Is Us"; ABC's "The Good Doctor"; CBS' "NCIS: New Orleans"; and NBC's "Ellen's Game of Games".
