Apple buys app development service Buddybuild

The startup says that it has joined Apple's Xcode engineering group and is accepting no new customers, though the service will remain available to existing ones. According to industry experts, the latest acquisition has been done to further strengthen the company's iOS development platform.Buddybuild revealed the deal on its official site and indicated that as a direct result of the buyout initiated by Apple, there will be key changes to expect.

"Buddybuild is a continuous integration (CI), continuous deployment (CD), and user feedback platform for iOS and Android development teams".

Buddybuild operates from Vancouver in British Columbia and runs with the help of 40 full-time engineers. Apple similarly discontinued Android compatibility when it acquired TestFlight, effectively removing a key development tool from Google's ecosystem.

Buddybuild was founded in 2015 by former Amazon employees Dennis Pilarinos and Christopher Stott. In 2014, Apple acquired TestFlight which began to require users to employ Xcode to utilise the service.
