Netflix accused of spying on users after 'creepy' tweet

A Christmas Prince

Netflix's A Christmas Prince Netflix

Netflix doesn't often provide statistics about ratings or viewership, but the streaming service did reveal something interesting.

Ever since Netflix dropped its original movie A Christmas Prince last month, festive-obsessed viewers swiftly added it to their annual must-watch list.

We all know that our Netflix subscription probably knows more about us than even our closest friends.

Trump accusers urge Congress to probe harassment claims
Democratic Senators Cory Booker of New Jersey and Jeff Merkley of OR called over the weekend for Trump to quit. Holvey said she felt like she "was just simply there for his pleasure".

'Ok @Netflix you are creeping me out that you keep tabs on us like that.and just so we are clear, I'm a writer/filmmaker so all those horror movies with tons of sex and nudity were watched repeatedly for educational purposes only!'

Netflix has defended a tweet that referred specifically to 53 people who had watched its new Christmas film every day for 18 days. "These people have been inspired, and they're watching it as a how-to-marry-a-royal".

Which would go down a bit easier if the original tweet wasn't binge-shaming 53 individual customers ... but okay. Other "highlights" have included calling out a Brit who has watched Bee Movie 357 times this year and a USA customer who watched Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 365 days in a row. For example, among other such ads, the campaign called out a single person with a billboard that said: "Dear person who made a playlist called: 'One Night Stand With Jeb Bush Like He's a Bond Girl in a European Casino.' We have so many questions".

Is Eagles Quarterback Carson Wentz Out for the Season?
Also, cornerback Trumaine Johnson is not in the concussion protocol, after being evaluated for a head injury during the game. Before leaving the Rams game, Wentz managed to throw for 291 yards and four touchdowns on 23-of-41 completions.

While both viewpoints could be right in certain ways, it remains to be seen how Netflix responds to the hullabaloo considering that its tweet has, within a day, garnered over 100,000 retweets and 400,000 likes.

The collection and processing of data on users is usually a part of the terms and conditions of signing up for services such as Netflix, but comes with legal responsibilities under the Data Protection Act.
