The Australian Financial Review has revealed that shares in Australia-based global delivery logistics software company GetSwift doubled on Friday, 1 December, following the news that it has signed a "master services agreement" with Amazon.
After months of speculation, the company said in a statement this morning that it would offer millions of products across more than 20 categories.
Customer orders will be fulfilled from Amazon's new fulfilment centre in Dandenong South.
Analysts remain split over whether Amazon will open a warehouse in New Zealand.
There's also free shipping for orders over $49 and a one-day delivery service available in some areas.
While Amazon has been busy hiring for its music offering since before June, filling the roles of Music Curator, Senior Music Curator, Senior Marketing Manager, and Head of Digital Music, Amazon Music Unlimited won't launch until early 2018.
The move establishes the $550 billion behemoth as an aggressive presence in the sluggish Australian retail sector, just as shopkeepers were hoping for a rush of sales over the important Christmas holiday season.

The selection at Amazon.com.au includes millions of products offered by well-known Australian brands, as well as small and medium-sized Australian businesses selling on Amazon Marketplace.
Amazon has already secured a rich range of Australian and worldwide brands (including Bonds, Sol-Sana, as well as Puma, Lego, L'Oreal; and Sonos) available to consumers as part of the local marketplace launch.
