A review board comprising judges of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday ordered the release from house arrest of Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed, who pledged that he and his followers in the Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD) will play a strong role for Kashmir's independence.
The Pakistan government failed to provide any evidence to the court as for why Hafiz Saeed was kept under house arrest. In October, the board had allowed a 30-day extension to the detention of Saeed which will expire next week. Subsequently, his house arrest had been extended several times.
Hafiz Saeed term will be expiring next week.
The Pakistani court heard the case within closed room and ordered the release of the alleged masterminds of the 2008 Mumbai attacks - which killed more than 160 people - on the basis of no substantial evidence.

During a hearing by the review board on Tuesday, the Punjab government said Pakistan might face sanctions from the world community if Saeed is released.
The counsel of the federal government argued that the release of four associates of Saeed had created law and order issues.
Stating that the release of Saeed could lead to the imposition of worldwide sanctions on Pakistan, an official of the Punjab Home Department told the review board, "We plead the board not to order the release of Saeed as Pakistan may face global sanctions".
Despite U.S. sanctions on Saeed, the cleric has been living freely in Pakistan and delivering anti-U.S. speeches.
