Lawsuit: Some female Uber passengers have 'endured rape, physical violence' from drivers

Uber Sued by Two Women Who Say They Were Sexually Assaulted by Drivers

Uber sued over alleged rapes as #MeToo web rally reveals more sex assault claims

On Tuesday, two anonymous women filed a lawsuit against Uber on behalf of individuals who have experienced "rape, sexual assault, physical violence, and gender-motivated harassment" by Uber drivers. "These allegations are important to us and we take them very seriously", the ride-hailing firm said in a statement. Bustle has reached out to Uber for comment.

Two women allegedly violated by Uber drivers have filed a law suit against Uber in a court in California.

It claims Uber not only failed to warn passengers about its flawed background checks, but that it doesn't adequately track its drivers' conduct after they're hired.

Qualcomm denies $130bn rival takeover
Inside sources claim that Qualcomms board of directors will reject Broadcoms offer to acquire the Snapdragon chip designer. That's no small amount of money, and it would have ranked as the tech industry's largest acquisition ever.

"Uber's advertising campaigns make the assertion that it provides the best option for a safe ride home after a night of drinking", the suit declared.

The lawsuit, which describes the details of the assaults faced by the two plaintiffs, seeks damages for plaintiffs and to force Uber to take steps to prevent assault by drivers.

The lawsuit argues that company's label as a "technology platform", rather than a transportation company, allows it to "skirt state and local regulatory scrutiny" and avoid investing in screening drivers. "Nothing meaningful has been done to make rides safer for passengers - especially women".

Brookfield Property Partners L (NYSE:BPY) Trading Down - Shorts Up 13.48%
This buyback authorization permits the financial services provider to buy shares of its stock through open market purchases. Renaissance Technologies LLC increased its stake in shares of Brookfield Property Partners 52.4% in the 1st quarter.

This type of an accusation is familiar to Uber, which was sued by a woman in India who said that her driver not only raped her but that executives at Uber illegally obtained medical records of hers when then tried to discredit her.

"Uber has created a system for bad actors to gain access to vulnerable victims", the lawsuit states.

Internal customer support documents obtained from Uber in 2016 showed that more than 6,000 driver or rider complaints include the term "sexual assault", although Uber claims the actual number of assaults is far lower. The accusers are seeking compensation for the alleged offenses and have requested the judge grant an injunction against Uber that requires the company to implement stricter background checks on its drivers.

Boeing vs Airbus: $77 billion in deals in under 2 hours
Why are the deals so big? FlyDubai said the planes would bring the low-priced carriers total fleet on order up to 320. Reports circulated before the air show that a major A380 sale would be coming.

Earlier this month, Uber pledged $5 million during the next five years to fund sexual assault prevention groups as well as train its own employees. Uber has also installed dashboard cameras in cars in South Africa, following numerous reports of rape in the country. The other was raped by an Uber driver in her apartment in Miami.
